Can you increase your pagerank without backlinks?

I have some new backlinks for my sites and I'm pretty confident that I will reach pagerank 4 on the next pagerank update but after that... how can I still grow? I do not think I can get backlinks from sites with a pagerank higher than 4. Can the pagerank grow without the help of pageranks too?
Or should I start raising some money to pay for some backlinks in the future?

Don't spend money for Page Rank. The page rank determination is depending upon the secret algorithm google has. The algorithm may change periodically. So just not think about PR more... Make sites with good service. Make it popular. Then don't do any thing. The PR will increase automatically according to your popularity. Also you can go to the top positions of search results if your site contains unique contents or informations.

If your site only contains unique and demanding informations, then don't bother about the PR. Your site will positioned on top unless other sites not succeeded to provide the exact match for the search keyword.

Well, I'm going to put unique content there since I'm planning to write the informations there myself or ask some others for help, so the informations will be original.
And I'm also thinking about good service. I'm not a fool. I know there is no use to have a site with a high pagerank if no one returns to your site. I was just curious to see if it worths to put effort into a good backlinks strategy.
So... I guess the answer is yes... you can have a high pagerank without backlinks.

don't spend money...there are a lot of good quality free directories around that you could submit your site to, it won't help a lot with pr, but it can help some!
but yes build up your sites content.....who cares about pr, traffic should be your main goal

On the site where I am an administrator, the traffic is really high. About 2000 to 5000 visitors daily. The pr is 4 and the site is old and trusted by google's crawlers.
However, it lacks backlinks!
If I try to make some backlinks for it, like the one from webmasters forum or by putting the link in my signatures and so on, do you think it can reach pagerank 5 or even 6 in time?
It doesn't have many backlinks.
While my site, who is a pr 2 and just a couple of months old has almost 3000 on google (there was a search command, something like link:sitename.com - sitename.com, that only mentioned links to your site from other sites), this site has under 2000.
If I can help it become more popular, can it reach pr 5? Because this will boost my rankings too, since I have a baclink (banner) on all of it's pages.

It is very difficult to reach on PR 6 or so.. You have to make thousands of backlinks and queries on Google to successfully maintain on high page rank positions. That is only possible with the popularity of the site. It is not possible for one person to make a site from PR 0 to PR 6. PR 4 is good. But there is a chance existing to fall from PR 4 on next Page Rank update, if the site is not promoted or updated on the period. So do the promotional working as normal. Don't bother about the PR. According to the increasing popularity, PR will automatically update.

Actually, being an very active forum, it self promotes! That's the greatest thing about forums!

Oh fish,i wasted 10$ in placing my links in some high PR sites,but those links had vanished after few days only. I dont know why. So its just a foolishness to waste money for getting PRs. And now i think,the best way to get a PR is to have nice contents and good no of backlinks.

Be very careful when you spend money for backlinks.

I personally think is not such a wise move to pay for backlinks, especially when you can get them for free. I'm not going to list the methods of doing that for free, they are here, on this forum.
Anyway... why pay for something when you can get it for free, right?

He is a guy who has an iTrader over 400 on DP
He even helped my hijack a guy's topic.
He hired me to do him a logo. I did. He did not payed me and then I see this topic on DP where he was trying to sell the site urgently with my logo on it!
He can't sell anything now

To get back on the topic I found out the answer is truly yes.
I know a pr4 site who has under 1000 backlinks and over 8 sites linking back to it.

PR is based mainly on link popularity. The more backlinks (preferably dofollow links from higher PR and related sites) the more chances your PR would increase.
