Domain Prices Going to Increase
Domain Prices Going to Increase
In April 2007, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved certain domain registries to increase their prices. Domain registries are the private companies which manage the registration, technical operations, and control the allocation policies of the TLD's for which they are responsible.
Domain registries VeriSign(.com, .net tld's), Afilias(.info tld), Neulevel (.biz tld)and Public Interest Registry(.org tld)applied for and received price increases and have announced they will be raising their wholesale prices to all registrars.
So a bad news for WebMasters. You can see slight changes on every domain registration sites on the coming days. Some domain selling sites are already raised their prices.

RE: Domain Prices Going to Increase
hmmm...thats a really bad news for us. But why do they want to increase it. The domian prices are perfect...
Name servers eats large amount of money for their maintenance. Registrar also need to pay a lot. They normally minimize the price by overselling domains.
I think now they looking for more profit..

Not so bad. Namecheap is increasing its price by 41 cents. Anything higher is a rip-off.

Namecheap is a good option. But I think that godaddy is more reliable.
Just a few things about GoDaddy. They raised their price by $1.00, which means they are gouging you for the difference.
GoDaddy is notorious for playing fast and loose with their terms of service to hold domains hostage.
I had a very specific and very nasty encounter with them, as explained in the following article:
http://macnightowl.com/newsletter/2007/0...4/#godaddy
As you see, we rescued ourselves from that horror show, and I recommend others do likewise.
GoDaddy more reliable? Give me a break!

RE: Domain Prices Going to Increase
I own a domain on namecheap and I don't have any problem with them..
But godaddy is more popular. Thats why I prefer them..
You can find many nasty encounter reviews about namecheap also...
I have heard of occasional spottiness in customer service at NameCheap, but they don't try to hijack a domain. And, on the whole, they do a good job. And they cost less than GoDaddy, particularly for WHOIS protection, where GoDaddy can steal you blind!
Larger does not mean better.
McDonalds is not the best restaurant either. That's really a poor expression of logic.

But larger will not fall faster..
This is very important principle on web hosting and domain registration. Am learned this lesson from my previous experience.
I would never recommend to anyone to pick hosting and domain registration the basis of whether a company is large or small.
It's all about service, performance and support.
While a lot can be automated when it comes to domain registration, the same can't be said for hosting, where individual issues can vary widely. There a company that's smaller, with personal service, might suit many people better.
It may not matter for a simple personal site where you aren't hitting resource limits and don't get lots of traffic. Otherwise, having the wrong host can seriously impair the profitability of your business.
I've had sites online for 8 years now, and I've learned one or two things along the way

But in this case, the two sites are big guns. So it doesn't matter on here..

Yes you are right, It's all about service, performance and support.
But you can't rely on those sites which doesn't hold any good history...
There are many sites with bad reseller plans. Many of them offers in huge to attract people..
You can definitely see the full account terminations after couple of months.. There are millions of complaints like this on forums..
A site becomes popular only when their services are very satisfactory. Keep that in mind also..

RE: Domain Prices Going to Increase
Even though I'm not affected so much by this, since I don't buy lots of domains ( I only have one ) it's still bothering because as soon as I'll receive my credit card (in just one more week ^^ ) I'm planning to buy some more.
The problem is that I also wanted to buy a .ro domain, the specific domain for my country. Since now, the .ro domains were much more expensive than the .com domains ( about 4 time more ) but the advantage was that they were yours for life. Now, they're planning to insert that "pay-per-year" system too and this will be really bothersome since I preferred to pay a little bit more once and then have it until I'll sell it.
Anyway, pretty soon I'll buy one or two more .com domains and I hope this price increase won't affect my budget too much

RE: Domain Prices Going to Increase
Most of the sites gives domains under $10. About $9.5...
But some sites charges upto $30 for a single domain. I think the most expensive domain is .tv. They cost upto $50.
