ok I used the sitemap link i provided lol....i didn't feel comfy given them my ftp info so i downloaded the file myself...good thing i did cuz the links it was showing, i really didn't need google indexing (a bunch of flash files i have linked to on my foamy page)
you can either use theirs and then just edit it or make one

ok i'm not the best to explain this, but i'll try....

create a file named sitemap.xml and replace my info with your info

i don't think the date of lastmod matters and the changefreq well you can have daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, never ... there may be others i'm not aware of
not too sure what priority is or does, i'm assuming 1 is the highest...

and you can only use the url that you are submiting for
I have 4 urls listed at google, 3 of which are the same site...but google sitemap doesn't like using other domain names for 1 site so I had to make 3 sitemaps (sitemap, sitemap1 and simtemap2) the 1st only with the .com urls the 2nd only with the .info urls and the 3rd only with the actually hosting (ie .core-fusion.net) urls otherwise it kept coming back with errors when i had google check the sitemaps saying that the urls were invailed for that site...

so though it was a bit of a headache....i now have sitemaps and hopefully my site will be indexed and ranked a heck of a lot better.....

or you could use the site ivenms posted in another thread (sorry i forgot about that site and found this one while lookin for another script)

[edit] doh...i guess i should say...and upload it to your public_html folder
then log into your google account and then click on webmaster tools if you haven't already, add your sites and then press on add a sitemap...it took about 10 to 20 minutes for google to check mine....after about 20 minutes check on your sitemap and it'll say pending, ok or error....hopefully it won't say anything else lol fix the errors with the sitemap if any until it says it's ok.....

not a problem..i really have no reason to be tryin to run my own sites...but i am lol so I try to share my experiences with others so that they can kinda have an idea of what to do or not to do and not make the same mistakes i did...cuz i know i can't be the only noob to runnin my own sites

and I know we all want the best for our sites and unfortunately sitemaps are kinda one of those important things...and well i just found it really confusing at first til i found the site i went to and after seeing the file they created...it wasn't all that confusing after all...unlike how google had my head spinning in circles

I needed a site map for my forum and I googled for one but none of the links did something that satisfied me. Then I remembered I have an account here and I managed to find something useful here! Free sitemap generator doing a very neat job for the past years and I'm using their service for a long time. You can achieve better service from them by upgrading your account. They automatically index and upload the sitemaps for your sites.

In my opinion, they are the best free sitemap generators.

I can not believe how efficient it was!!!
At first, I had like... 5-8 pages indexed since my site got listed in google. And those 5-8 pages that were indexed were indexed in a couple of days, like more than a week.
I used that sitemap (that was .... two days ago if I'm not mistaking) and now I already have 19 pages indexed!
I think it's a huge difference compared to the other days!

no prob, site maps are a great thing, because all it takes is for one bot to find it and bam! now almost every one of your pages will eventually be found and indexed

If you get a Google Webmasters Tools account, then you can submit your sitemap direct to google. If it is in xml format, google will tell you if the sitemap validates, and if all the links are ok.

The other Search Engine's are using this standard too.

I made my own sitemap, which takes the info from the data base, then creates an xml file. I use the crontab function to do this once a day.

The best and safest way to make sitemap. But if your urls are depended upon your database, there is no need of depending cron functions.. Just make the XML file on request. as one of my sitemap for this site: http://webmasters-forums.com/sitemap-posts.php . (Note: Don't open it on normal browser. Because the file is too large to open on normal browser.)

Learn PHP and SQL to do that.. You can do every thing for your site if you completely learn the both languages..

Oh... now I see! So it's something custom made.
Well, SQL I'm already learning at school and php I think I'll also learn at school next year so it won't take longer )
I thought it's something more... common, like a script that can be easily edited!
