Is it healthier to remove copyrights from scripts??

Hey friends,i'm using some nice sizzling scripts for my Big File hosting sites now. But i've cleverly removed all their copyrights n has placed mine in its place. So,is their any harm with it?

If the scripts re genuine and the providers are strict, you will be fined in large amount..

There are some license applicable for the script's use and each license category obeys some strict laws. If you are using free script, the scripts are distributing under GNU / GPL : http://www.gnu.org/licenses/

Also if you want good support for the script, keep the copyrights intact. Also fake copyright claims are illegal and some times, it costs millions..

But how will they catch me n how can they ask me for a fine? Is it really a serious matter? I thought,i'm only da clever dude! Ok say me.

Different scripts uses different techniques for their client's tracking. Some part of their script embedded with little tracking systems (like a small invisible image from the official site embedded on the script capable of giving good informations about the using sites). So be careful with good and serious scripts.

If you are going with warez or cracked scripts, then you are risking your normal life..

walsh is very correct on this topic. Please keep the copyright part of every scripts you using. You are not going to harm yourself by doing that...

But still this is a common act for webmasters. But they are not aware of its seriousness. Many of the scripts follow strict license laws. Be careful with those scripts. (Eg: VBulletin)

there are many ways to keep track of these things and if it is stated in the TOS then you must keep any links back to them that are required...otherwise if they so wish...say good bye to your site!

Oh my God,den i've to erase all the tracking tools also from the script. I'll read word by word n remove everything,but i cant keep da copyrights,as my friends r also getting my scripts,n r acting smart. So i've to go in negative way now. Hmmm...

You are not learning..

It is very difficult to find that. When your site is index by Google, the script owners can reach you by simply searching the common words used in the script. Why you taking risks??

Just put those simple words on the bottom of the page. You are not going to loose any thing by doing that.

or create a sitewide link spot on the right or something and place the links to the scripts there under a title such as affiliates or contributors or something

most people won't mind if you place the links elsewhere, so long as they are sitewide

What about if you use a template, and they require you to not remove the link at the bottom, is that a problem?

They deserve some thing for their works. A link to the site which proves template is appreciable.

oooo, ok, thanks a lot for this information. I better check my sites from now on.lol. It's not like i removed the copyright, but it seems dangerous. I dont want to pay such a big price for something that small.

Dont dare to remove copyrights of vBulletin dude! It'll hang your whole family till death! Those vBulletin is very strict about its copyrights. I've seen it at many places about those comments. I think,i'm secure n underneath. Thank god.

Not sure you are secure lol,i myself installed vb once in a server,but due to the graise of almighty my server down.else my life'd be sure in hell now

Now no one goes for VB for small forums.. There are very good free forum scripts available that offers more than VB. An example for that is MyBB. So forget about VB and use scripts like MyBB. That is more beneficial for your forum and for you.
