Does anyone know about the date of the next google page ranks update?
I'm really curious to see if my page rank jumped over 0. I got some backlinks recentlly but I still have more promoting to do and it would be nice to see that my work payed out

You can check with Future Page Rank tool. But I don't guarantee its value. They predicting the page rank based on the backlinks.

Page rank is some thing like ratings given by the Google for site pages. You can get a rank from 0 to 10 for your sites. The results sorted on the search result pages determined with the help of this page rank.

I am explaining the application of page rank in here:

Assume that there are two pages with same contents. Each of them are on different domain as well.
One of the site has page rank 5 ( Say site1 ) and the other site has page rank 2 ( say site2 ).
When you try to search on Google for a query ( that included on the page ), the first positioned result will be the page from site1,rather than site2.

Thus page rank plays a big role on the result positions.


Google determines page ranks according to the back links each pages have on other sites.

There are certain problems if they publish their plans and statistics.

Actually they are not published the actual calculation of the page rank. On their blog, they gives a rough idea about the page rank calculations. Different sites using different algorithms for calculating page ranks and many of them uses Google API which is normally used for google toolbar to get page rank.

So Google really don't want to reveal their secrets. That is the real success behind them.

Well, I understand if they don't say how they do it exactlly, but I will never understand why is it so bad if they say when. It mustn't necesarelly be the exact day. They could even say is that between the days ... and ... the page rank will be updated ( with an interval smaller than 7 days ).

Google not changing the whole site's PR in seconds. It takes some time, about 1 to 3 days i think. Also they are not changing the page ranks in equal intervals.

So they are not announcing their updating time.

I think it is also because they don't want to make popular the fake page ranks. There are many fake PR usage types and trickies. For example, this site used htaccess redirection and they got PR7 : http://www.vikipedi.com

If you check the PR of that website, you can see it was 7. But they are pretty fake because that website was redirected to tr.wikipedia.org which is Turkish Wikipedia. And you can check if the PR shown is real or fake by looking here:

I recentlly exchanged some backlinks with some sites and I wonder how much will it take for those backlinks to appear at my pagerank status ( if I acces http://pagerank.fr not only that it shows me my pagerank but also the number of pages indexed by google and also the number of backlinks ).

It is very important that those pages where your link exist also should index by google. Then only your PR updates. After exchanging links with other sites, don't forget to submit those pages of other domains to Google.

One of them for an example had an pagerank of 4, another one was an old forum that I administrated once and then it died and I recentlly found out that it wasn't deleted ( it was on a free forum host) and on top of that it had a pagerank of 1 so I decided to fill its first page with links to my site

You suggest that I should re-submit the indexes of those pages (or the pages where my link is) to google myself and not to wait for the crawlers to discover them?

Now the indexing power of google on submission of URL is very improved and the page you submitting on google will be indexed within minutes. Also different sites site different time for crawling rate. So some times it takes months to discover the change on the page by bot itself.

That is just a toy if you need to play. :lol:

I am afraid that you are out-of-date. Recently the PR algo changed. The give much weight to site quality and not just on backlinks.

Site quality is based on their new webmaster guidelines.

They did not fake the PR. The faked the toolbar. And my guess is that they did that with the 302 Hijacking.

Be very careful with reciprocal linking. If a site you exchange links which are or get banned, you can get penalized. This is a very sensitive issue.

Then I can tell you that within this moment and the next two weeks the PR Toolbar Export should take place.

What do you want to do next? How does this info help you?

As I said, instead of constantly checking my pagerank I shall check it only twice maximum. After one week first, and if it's still the same then, I shall check it again after another one week when it will have to be updated. If it's still the same, you will tell me again that the next PR update will certainly be somewhere in ... december. So I'll check it again at the middle of december and then at the end of december. I won't check it every few days like I am now.
So, I think this will help me in many ways (saving time, getting red of some stress, curing my impatience :lol: etc. )

Did you ever hear about the PageRank Toolbar obsession? Ignore that bloody bar, and do something more productive for your site. You are just wasting your time, and does not make any sense.
