I recently created a subdomain so I could "move" my forum.
Initially, you could access it at http://animezup.com/forum but now it will be http://forum.animezup.com
The thing is that the forum can be accessed from both links and it has the same content.
I also created another subdomain, extra.animezup.com that I intent to transform in a sort of partner site for my forum.
Anyway, the point is that I just added this subdomains to google and I have two questions.
1. As pagerank.fr tells me, I have like 3500 pages indexed in google. As I understood, this is a good thing. But I am sure that most of this pages are from the forum. Will the pages from forum.animezup.com will affect that number? Will they still be added to that number, even though they are the same? Or will they be counted separately? I mean... animezup.com will have 3500 pages and forum.animezup.com 100 indexed pages or how many will the google bots index.
2. As I said, I intend to make extra.animezup.com a sort of a sepparate site. Will it have it's on pagerank ( ok, I know it will have, but the question goes like this... if it will have a bigger rank than the actual domain, will I able to take advantage of that and improve my domain's rank too trough backlinks? )?
no it should still be counted as the domain... though google will now need to reindex the pages, so you may lose a bit
as for which is better, both are good...i suggest subdomains simply cuz it looks better in the url and some directories do not accept extentions but will except subdomains....
Google considering every subdomains as different sites. So you need to place a robot.txt file on the directory, also make a new sitemap for the subdomain and submit to google. Google likes to treat subdomains as different sites and you also make your sub domain as new seperate site. It helps you to decrease the page depth and gives better place on search engines.
I believe that it is a better move. But you have to work from the bigging for the subdomain. Submit the new subdomain and its sitemap to popular search engines, including google.
Extentions seem cooler than subdomains but yahoo uses subdomains. All my websites are subdomains, I dont own any domains. its cool, its the way to get to the link and not the links name in the end!
