What is Google SiteMaps?

Do you know about google sitemaps?

Now google search engine mostly relays on sitemaps submitted by webmasters. The google sitemap is a tool provided by google for webmasters to index their sites by google bot very easly. This tool is situated on webmasters category on google.

The direct link to google sitemap is: https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/

You need a google account to own this tool. This tool shows the statistics of your site's pages on google search engine. The performance of your site on the search engine can be analysed with this tool.

The sitemap is normally a xml file which contains the list of urls of your site.

well you wouldnt really want to use it unless you owned a website lol. they use a spacial bot cvalled the GoogleBot to search the sitemap making it display on google easier. im making mine now should be done soon.

CrazyRob, it is necessary to have a better google sitemap for the all site and should be updated regularly and resubmit everytime. That will improve your site rank on google. From my experiance, i found that the add url on google now doing nothing. All indexing by googlebot ( Google's Robot ) is only based on the sitemap submitting by the webmasters.

If you use a Content Management System such as Drupal, it makes your sitemap automatically and you just inform google by webmasters section. that's all. your pages go well on google searches.

But you can't rely CMS for all your site operations. They have their own limitations. Many times you need to make some thing your own if you are using CMS and the CMS makes it difficult.

I prefer everyone to make their own scripts for their sites. That makes their site different and it also helps to gain popularity..

The page rank is entirely depends on the backlinks for your page.

actually yahoo uses urllist.txt instead of sitemap.xml
