Whats the difference betweenASP & ASP.NET????

Hi guys,i have started learning ASP from http://www.asptoday.com and im very excited now,as its totally similar to html only,except some startin and ending codes.. Its very easy too.. Im looking forward to complete it as soon as possible.. Ok one thing,that im confused in that is,what is the differnce in between ASP & ASP.NET???
Are these two different from eachother??
If yes,den in what respect???
Which is more easy to learn ???

ASP is not like HTML. Let me clear that first. HTML is just a markup language. That only used for painting a web page on a browser window. A simple HTML page is a static page. That is not capable of interfere with the user.

To make the static HTML page to dynamic (that is to make it to work according to the client's request), we are putting scripts (programming languages for web pages). Scripting Languages includes: PHP, Java Script, ASP. Perl, CGI, ect... Script helps you to change the single page to different forms according to the client's request. For example, this page is sown differently for logged users and guests.

Difference between ASP and ASP.Net:

Asp is just as a script like PHP or JavaScript or other scripts... They can embed on normal HTML pages by using specific open and close tags for the scripts( <% and %>). Every thing mentioned inside the tag will execute and only the output is send to the client.

But ASP .NET is different. ASP.NET is a web application framework marketed by Microsoft that programmers can use to build dynamic web sites, web applications and XML web services. It is part of Microsoft's .NET platform and is the successor to Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP) technology. ASP.NET is built on the Common Language Runtime, allowing programmers to write ASP.NET code using any Microsoft .NET language.
