What is the best board in your opinion?
If you ask me, I would say it's myBB. They are constantly developing and even though they are quite new in this market they are already spreading fast. It's easy to install, easy to modify and very powerful. Their support seemed excellent to me and their developing team is very dedicated. The only disadvantage of myBB is that they do not have as many mods as other scripts, but that can be fixed in time.
Another good board type is SMF. By some the best, SMF is very well when it comes to handling and banning IP's. But their design is really ugly and is not as attractive ( as in having fun mods ) as other forums. Is a professional format and that's why is really difficult to install their plugins.
Next, it would be phpBB. I know this format and I hate it. The admin panel is a mess and looks really ugly. Their templates aren't so bad but they don't attract me. It's a good thing that they are popular and therefore have a huge database of mods and this is it's main advantage. But when most of the mods are really difficult to install ( as in stressful) it really makes you wanna quit.
Some other formats are IPB (Invision Power Board) and vBulletin but you must pay in order to use them. I only used IPB and I must say it was quite nice but myBB is just as good and it's also free. And when it comes to vBulletin, I understood that is very complicated and it's also expensive... So... I'll stick to myBB. How about you?
I love MyBB and am very close to the forum script. This place is also developed on MyBB. So my vote goes to MyBB.
Also SMF and phpBB are my second and third options. Latest phpBB will definitely boost their community. But still I believe that MyBB have much features and also simple than others. The only defect i found with myBB is the number of mods (plugins) they have. This will also increase on future days. vBulletin is a great forum platform. But that is not a free script. So no comments, because I believe that you are not getting much for your money. Forums like MyBB, SMF, ect. are capable of giving more features than vBulletin and also for free..
